In recent years the museum has also become something of a forum for climate and energy issues. Vänerlandis a permanent exhibition that focuses on nature, culture and the great inland sea. Theaquarium section has various displays including a giant aquarium that is a great hit with children. This is populated with many of the 40 different species of fish that live in lake Vanern.
The museum also has a fun experimentation area on the themes of water and the lake. On Målaregatan in the town, an easy walk from the museum, you can also visit the Ajax museum apartment, run by Lake Vänern Museum.
In summer, both Ajax and the museum hold dramatised tours for all ages. In the maker workshop, children and adults can create and fix things on themes that are linked to the exhibition. Next to Lake Vänern Museum is Framnäs swimming pool which has a diving tower and café, and the museum itself also has a small café corner with panoramic views of lake Vänern.
